About 50 members met at Bejo Seeds, 323 Prossers Rd, Richmond, at 5.00pm. The group initially went next door to tour the walnut orchard of Phil and Jane Dening. Phil and Jane took the group through the orchard to explaintheir 17 yearjourney from being novices in contract with Webster Walnuts and then up to their processing facilities and explained how they are now fully independent and have recently been marketing and developing new value-addedproducts. Samples were tasted! The group returned to Bejo Seeds to have an inspection of Bejo processing facilities.

Clive Ockenden discussed his experience from setting up his seed company in the 1980s and eventually buying out Roberts Ltd. He then went on to be bought out by the Dutch Bejo Seeds, the third largest seed company in the world, in the late 1990s and he continued as Manager. He described Bejos operations in Tasmania. Clive is now retiring and new Seed Production Manager Rob Salmon was introduced to the group. An excellent barbecue dinner followed, including sampling Bejo’s fine wines, grown a inverquarity.
