Sir Harold was a leading businessman who made a great contribution to agricultural development in Tasmania as well as being Managing Director of the Blundstone company. He owned land near Richmond, and was a great supporter of the Coal River Products Association. He helped the association, particularly by advising on the right ways to approach government and business, when seeking support for our activities. This led to successful lobbying for such important developments as crop production agreements, irrigation schemes and Landcare partnerships with natural resource management groups.

To commemorate Sir Harold’s contribution, CRPA instituted a prize in 1991 which has been awarded each year since to a student in the agriculture or food systems courses at the University of Tasmania who shows the greatest potential to make a significant contribution to agriculture in Tasmania and more broadly.

Awardees have indeed gone on to make their mark in the agricultural world. The Association has provided a cash prize each year, recently increased to $1000.
